Kathmandu, 26th Bhadra. So, did you know? It’s been raining continuously for three days now, and more rain is expected, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division. It’s kind of surprising, isn’t it? The department has issued a serious warning. Were you expecting such heavy rain?
Well, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted that the rain, which started on Thursday, will continue for three full days. Their special bulletin is quite interesting. Imagine how the situation must be in western Nepal! That’s where they’re saying the heavy rain is most likely.
Now, we all know that the monsoon winds are affecting the whole country. But what really caught my attention was something meteorologist Shanti Kandel said. She mentioned that the low-pressure line towards the south is playing a big role in bringing this heavy rain to Nepal. And get this—there’s still a chance that the low-pressure system in central India might shift towards the northwest, which would mean even more rain for Nepal’s western region.
Here’s the thing—the department has already stated that there’s a possibility of heavy rainfall in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. And moderate rainfall, along with thunder and gusty winds, could occur in most of the other provinces. Well, that’s somewhat expected, right? Not all places will see heavy downpours, but it’s always good to stay cautious. And you know what I’ve noticed? These bulletins always remind us to “stay alert.”
Now, during such rainy times, rivers and streams tend to overflow, which puts lower-lying urban areas at risk of flooding. Not just that—there’s also a risk of landslides. I think it’s time for everyone to ensure they stay safe. This is monsoon season after all, and the rains seem to get heavier at night, increasing the risk even further. We really need to be careful.
In the end, I just want to say—given the current weather, we should all be prepared and cautious.
